Bianchello del Metauro

Bianchello grapes are grown close to the sea or in the hills near the Metauro river valley. It is called also Biancame or Greco and its origins are ancient.

It is said that in the hot eve of the Metaurus battle (207 B.C.), the Cartaginian army of Hasdrubal indulged in the pleasure of this wine and the next day they lost the war against the Roman Empire.

This native grape is protected by the European Community because of it has limited distribution restricted to a few municipalities in the province of Pesaro, in the Marche.

Recent DNA studies attribute the origin of this grapes variety to a Trebbiano but because of its stay from ancient times on these territories, it has developed special characteristics that give the wine Bianchello a distinct personality.
